Young Maxson and his mother pray and wait
for improvement.
Nine-year-old
Maxson was playing with a nail and decided
to throw it into the air to see what would
happen to it. As he looked up the nail landed in his eye,
perforating the cornea
and iris. By the time he was brought to the
Canvasback eye clinic, his pupil had
pulled off to side, a cyst
(or bulge) had developed and a
traumatic cataract had formed.
Dr. Evans
removed the cataract and implanted a lens. He also opened up
the cornea to free of the iris and sutured it in place.
It took a
while to see any improvement, but after a week Maxson was actually
counting fingers and his prognosis had improved. His future
vision will be blurry but will improve when the sutures are removed
from the cornea a few months down the road.

One thing is certain; Maxson won't
be playing with any more nails.
