Blessings - Blessings - Blessings

This happy smile comes to you from Kina Bossy, age 9. She received a "myringotomy," pressure equalizing tubes in her ears to fight the chronic infections which had plagued her all of her young life.

Audiologist Donna Reese felt privileged to see the joy on the faces of patients--like this diabetic amputee--who was given a Bible in the Marshallese language. The demand for Bibles was far greater than the supply, as patients and hospital workers alike eagerly and gratefully receive them.

Sisters Rosalinda Hallers and Mary Pas pose here with Dr. James Sadoyama. They both received thyroidectomies which removed painful tumors and will allow them to resume normal lives.

Wonderful News!  One of our ENT teams just returned from two weeks in Chuuk, where they were able to benefit hundreds of needy islanders with care they could never have received otherwise.

The team did 528 examss, 93 audiograms (a hearing test used in diagnosing various conditions), and 48 surgeries-- and could have done much more if they'd had the time. They had a waiting list of several dozen people, some of whom would stick around the hospital all day in hopes that the team would be able to squeeze them in.

But numbers only tell part of the story. The team was able to correct serious problems that had long devastated the lives of the patients:  Tympanoplasties repaired eardrums that had been perforated by numerous painful infections. Thyroidectomies excised large tumors that made the simple act of swallowing difficult. Surgeries removed everything from nasal polyps to a fishbone lodged in a man's throat!

Chuukese medical officer Kino Ruben was so thrilled with the results, he just had to write and share his appreciation:

"The ENT team did the greatest job yet done in Chuuk!!   We are all very grateful and indebted to you and your people.  There are still many more who really need their services, but I guess we just have to wait for the next time.  Again, thank you very much for these great services you've given us."
