Thanks
for the Memories
After 13 years of faithful
service, the 71-foot medical catamaran Canvasback is being
replaced by two 133-foot cutters that were donated to
Canvasback Missions by the United States Congress in November,
1998.
Words alone are inadequate
do describe the impact that the medical ship has had on
the lives of those who built her, sailed her and received
care from her many medical and dental volunteers. To them,
Canvasback is more than just a ship. She is a dream.
A promise. A memory. She is a deliverer of
hope. An investment of time, of love, of dedication.
And none she touched will ever be the same again.
To quote Jamie Spence, ship-builder
and founder of Canvasback Missions:
"Canvasback is
a sailing ship, just metal and cloth, but she is the nearest
thing to a living personality that man can create . .
.The ship will get another life, with another master,
and she will romp the oceans again, and she will escort
the age of sail deep into the millennium. She will
retain her title 'Queen of the Oceans.'"
