Here
are some of the faces of health professionals those
who volunteer to help the island people and of the
patients who benefit from their compassionate care.
There
is little so precious as the smile of one who has
just received their sight back!
Dr.
Itor Harris is the past director of Health Services
for Pohnpei.
He was thrilled to be able to receive cataract
surgery from Dr. Loren Denler,
as this service is otherwise unavailable on his
islands.
One
of the youngest patients was Palikosro Albert, 18
mos. old. He had cellulitis in his left eye, a
dangerous condition resulting from severe
impetigo. Left untreated, the infection in the
eye can travel to the brain.

A year ago, Batsiba Laner, 16, of Kosrae, came to the eye clinic
with a large tumor which the team successfully removed.

One year later, Batsiba is doing just great!
Luke
Lulala has a traumatic cataract in her right eye.
Her needs were too extensive and fraught with
potential complications for the team to perform
surgery during the short the time that they were
there.
If
Luke does not have surgery soon, her brain will lose
the ability to see.
Canvasback
is trying to arrange for Luke to come to the states
to receive the care she needs.
