After ending our biggest year yet in 2014, we're excited to hit the ground running in 2015. Our first teams of the year are already en route to Majuro. To be more efficient with our time and money, we're combining two important teams during this two-week trip: gynecology and ultrasound continuing education.
Our gynecology team will give examinations, perform surgeries, and provide continuing education for hospital staff. In February and March of 2014, our gynecology team completed 494 consultations, 235 pap smears, and 45 surgeries. It also provided training to doctors on the latest procedures.
Our ultrasound team has a twofold mission: to provide studies and screenings of patients for the gynecology team and to train hospital staff. By using the gynecology clinic patients' screenings as real case studies for hands-on training with staff, our ultrasound team will merge tasks and maximize its time on island. Last year, our ultrasound team spent three weeks training hospital staff.
There are few gynecology specialists in the Marshall Islands. Last year, we encountered severe problems, many of them made worse by inattention. Our team not only provides additional, intentional focused surgery and treatment, but it works with hospital staff to keep them up to date on procedures and care. This ensures a lasting impact for both doctors and patients.
In 2014 our combined gynecology and ultrasound continuing education teams saw almost 500 patients and provided $653,690.00 worth of care to the Marshall Islands. This year, we hope to have a similarly outstanding impact.
As always, your support got us to this point. Since you were an essential part of this mission, we invite you to stay up to date on these teams. See status updates and photos by liking Canvasback Missions on Facebook. You can also follow us on Twitter and Instagram.
