Nipro Diagnostics Donates Glucose Meters

We recently received a huge donation from Nipro Diagnostics for our upcoming Diabetes Miracle Intervention Program in the Marshall Islands. Nipro donated 46 meters and 392 vials of 50/bottle test strips. The estimate value of this donation is $8,140. Thank you Nipro, it will help the people in the islands so much. With funding from the U.S. Embassy, and assistance from the Marshall Island Journal, the local newspaper, Canvasback Missions has been able to provide the island residents with instructions on growing their own food. Informing the population about life style changes that can help reverse the epidemic of diabetes is an urgent task. Fifty percent of adults over age 35 are diabetic and the statistic for younger people is near 30%.

Their energy kept on going throughout their two week stay. Richard Henderson, MD recruited the thirteen person team which included Providence health care professionals: Kay Henderson, MD, Ted Skaarup, MD, John Bleth, RN, and Maryanna Nelson RN. The delayed arrival didn't deter the team from doing an outstanding job. In less than two weeks, they examined 277 patients and performed a total of 32 surgeries; the total value of their services exceeds of $727,250.
