Dr. Price's surprise find

God is able to accomplish immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine

March 2009

Healing hands were at work in Ebeye as our 16-person team conducted orthopedic and dermatology clinics and continuing education in radiology and ultrasound.  God provided in so many ways.  Here's an example:

The Assistant Secretary of Health asked us to find a pediatric cardiologist because there were 14 patients that they suspected had cardiac problems.  There wasn't  enough money in the budget to send these children off-island to get a definitive diagnosis.  Our very best efforts to recruit a pediatric cardiologist and a portable echo-cardiogram machine had not been successful.  How were we to help these little children?

God had already worked out a solution.  Last year, Philips Healthcare donated a state-of-the-art ultrasound machine with color Doppler for us to give to the Ebeye Hospital.  Susan Price, PhD joined the team so that she could teach the doctors and technicians how to use the machine which was loaded with obstetrics and gynecology software.

I wish you could have seen the look of surprise when the machine was unpacked in Ebeye and we found that it was also loaded with echocardiogram software.  Price said, "It's extremely rare to have both cardiac and Ob/Gyn software on an ultrasound machine.  It was exactly what we needed."

With the use of the new ultrasound machine, Canvasback's board member and radiologist, Dr. Robert Hewes, ultrasound sonographer Susan Price and pediatrician Dr. Kay Henderson were able to identify cardiac defects in 8 children who need to have corrective surgery.  The Ebeye Hospital is now making arrangements to have these children treated.

"Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think" Ephesians 3:20
