Which Islands do you work in?

From 1986 to 1991, Canvasback worked in the Marshall Islands of Micronesia, helping to make their outer island dispensary system self-sufficient. In 1992, the mission opened a larger, more comprehensive work in the Federated States of Micronesia. These island states include Pohnpei, Kosrae, Chuuk and Yap. We have also maintained a presence in the Marshall Islands, providing fly-in specialty teams, and have developed and implemented a diabetes reversal program at the request of President Amata Kabua and Minister of Health, Tom Kijiner.

Why did you choose those islands?

Many considerations, chief among them the degree of assessed need and potential for cooperation with island governments to produce lasting improvements in their health delivery systems. Prayer played a pivotal role in these decisions, as we sought open doors for ministry.

What role does your religious faith play in your work?

At Canvasback, our motto is "Sharing the love of Jesus through healing hands."

We welcome the participation of Christians from all denominations. By meeting people's felt needs through compassionate healing, Canvasback volunteers seek to demonstrate Christianity in action, thereby opening a window to the heart to share the reality of Christ as Savior and Lord. Witnessing is done on a personal rather than a formal level, through the sharing of Bibles, Bible story books, and Christian literature.

How are you funded?

Canvasback Missions is funded by private donations from individuals and businesses. Historically, approximately 54% of our funding comes via cash gifts, 26% non-cash (material) gifts, 15% grants and 4% other.

Many of our donors are "voting members," who contribute $300.00 or more per year (or $25.00 per month) to the work of Canvasback. In association with our growing health education and preventive health and wellness orientation, we have recently started two new clubs, the "Fitness 500 Club," for members who give $500.00 or more per year, and the "Wellness 777 Club," for members who give $777.00 or more per year to further the work of Canvasback. Finally, the President's Club is for members who donate $1,000 or more. (See Membership Info for more details.)
